February 29, 2008 - Joseph John Maddon was born on February 8, 1954 in Hazleton, Pennsylvania. He is best known for his role as manager on the Tampa Bay Rays Pro Baseball team.

Prior to becoming named manager of the Rays on November 15, 2002, Maddon was the interim manager for the Anaheim Angels. He served this role during the 1996, 1998 and 1999 seasons. He was also a long-time bench coach for the Angels.

For 31 years, Maddon's former job long before his time as coach was a Minor League Catcher for the Angels organization. Maddon is one of a few managers in history to never participate as a player in the Pro Baseball. He attended Lafayette College and graduated in 1976.

In 2004, Maddon was in the running to become the Boston Red Sox's new manager. After much consideration, the job went to Terry Francona. Maddon's signature style of thick-rimmed glasses have led to several game give-a-ways to fans in order to resemble his look.

While coaching in the Pro Baseball, Maddon's win - loss record currently stands as 146 to 207 in approximately 353 games. His winning percentage is .414 percent.

In 2007, Maddon got engaged with his girlfriend of four years en route to a game vs the Colorado Rockies. He also has two children from a previous marriage named Sarah and Joey.
